Back in 1993 a couple of monumental events happened. Steven Spielberg released the epic Jurassic Park movie (I’ll never forget that heart thumping T-Rex scene), Burger King launched their tie-in offering, which later evolved into The Rodeo and a ten-year-old Fred Smith took a big bite of said burger.

Fast forward 21 years and this unlikely chain of events has concluded with Fred (the head of food at Byron) creating the Byronosauraus Rex, or the B-Rex as it’s affectionately known. As always this Byron special is spot on and follows the same winning formula last October’s all-conquering Le Smokey. PS there is a real dinosaur called Byronosauraus!

The burger is as follows: A perfect glossy brioche bun, an onion ring encircling chopped jalapeño peppers, spicy BBQ sauce and a few dollops of mayo. Then comes the crispy bacon, American cheese and the beef patty, cooked to perfection and still pink in the middle – don’t get me started on people who order a burger well-done! Finally there’s a layer of pickles, blanched white onions and a few more dollops of mayo. This all holds together really well, no slippage and very little spillage, a real feat of burger engineering! Especially as it’s loaded with that spicy BBQ sauce.

The B-Rex is available from Tuesday 25th February for £10.25. Our advice – get down to your nearest Byron before they’re extinct (sorry, bad pun), well you don’t want to wait another 20 years!
