The toast of India | The summer toastie menu at Cinnamon Soho, 5 Kingly Street, London W1B 5PF
Sometimes, but not often enough, we try something and think ‘why has this not been done before?’ like when we discovered the Potato Dog (a hotdog encased in fluffy potato) or most recently with Cinnamon Soho‘s new toasties. Apparently ‘gourmet’ toasted sandwiches are the latest London food trend? First we’ve heard of it, but hey, sounds good to us. Perhaps one day someone will satisfy my urges and finally create a Spanish meatball tortilla wrap, we need on-the-go Spanish food.
There’s a choice of South Indian spiced potato with cheese and red onion £4.75, Tandoori chicken and chilli with mustard mayonnaise £5.50, Kahdai spiced crab with tomato and tamarind £6, Keema Cotala – spiced minced lamb with scrambled egg £6. Or if you want to go really crazy there’s the Bombay Burner £7.75 – the world’s hottest toastie with minced lamb curry, it has two chilli symbols alongside it on the menu so it must be serious. The Shakes £4.50 that are offered alongside the sandwiches are great too, so thick yet refreshing with flavours from banana, strawberry, mango or coffee.
My fellow Cinnamon Soho loving friend and I tried the chicken and crab versions, both really good and just the right amount of spice, my regular ham and tomato will never be the same again. One of my biggest regrets in life is throwing out my toasted sandwich press after unnecessary pressure from Ade, it was taking up too much cupboard space. What was I thinking? Toasted sandwiches are the ultimate snack, I don’t know how I would have gotten through life without them.
I bet other Indian restaurants are kicking themselves for not thinking of this first.
The summer toastie menu is served Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 5pm, available to eat in or takeaway.
