*THIS RESTAURANT HAS NOW CLOSED*
Remember Gordon Ramsay’s programme The F Word back in 2010 when the competition was on to find the best local Thai restaurant? Well the semi-finalist Patria Weerapan from Simply Thai in Teddington has gone and set up a posh brand new restaurant in Bramley. For the 99% of you that won’t have heard of Bramley, it’s a little village just outside of Guildford in Surrey.
A Thai Panang beef curry that Patria cooked on the F Word was described by Gordon as “Absolutely phenomenal – a proper authentic Thai curry. Patria is really incredible…a freak of nature..and an amazing talented chef.”
Now this is my old neck of the woods, I grew up a few miles away in a beautiful village called Albury. The name of the restaurant Patrie – meaning ‘homeland’ in French is a tad confusing, it obviously sounds like a French restaurant rather than Thai. Patria named it such as it felt like home the moment she saw it. Plus it’s her own name spelt incorrectly… It’s amazing what swapping an ‘a’ and an ‘e’ can do!
Seeing as this was the opening night, we didn’t get to sample much food. Just a few canapés and a wonderful green curry. This used to be my favourite dish in the whole entire world until I went to Thailand this year and basically OD’d on it. Patria’s version made me fall in love with it all over again.
It’s still getting on its feet so there’s no website to look at yet, you’ll just have to make do with our pictures for now. Patria said she’s aiming for not one, but two Michelin stars, high hopes, we’ll be hoping she gets them.

We went to Simply Thai in Teddington and it was outstanding (service sweet but eratic), frankly, the food may deserve it, but she will never do it unless the front of house changes to fot Michelin standards (and I think that would be a shame)
We tried to book here and they were full. Unfortunately the Front of House Manager was rather off putting when we spoke to her. I am sure the food will excellent so we look forward to trying in the future. No rush however…..
Oh dear, hopefully just early teething problems Thai food fan… Let us know if you do get in and what you think…

Can’t find the phone number for Patrie Thai to book it – anyone told them !
I know, neither can we! Will tell the PR…
Expensive small portions that were cold or served on cold plates after a long wait in which the owner was arguing with staff as to whether we would be quick enough finishing our meal for the next table…..didn’t feel at all welcoming.! Cold and atmosphereless rsetaurant…we will not be a returning customer nor would we recommend the food, service, welcome or atmosphere. Thailand is VERY different. This part of Surrey desperately needs a good Thai restaurant…sadly this is not it.
Oh that’s such a shame Sarah, we had high hopes. We’ll have to visit next time we’re down and see what we think. Looks like you may have to head into Guildford for Thai!
Staff are very poor and untrained we paid the very expensive bill and was then given our jackets straight away even though we was still drinking our wine… The food was overpriced and at best average. We live local and had high hopes we will never return.
Oh that’s not good Darren, sad to hear it. Have you told them what you think?
I visited this Thai gem hidden in Bramley a few days ago with a group of my friends. There was six of us, we’ve been given a cozy table and through the whole night we have all been very happy and satisfied. The food was simply delicious! We heard from the staff that the chef is Thai born and she has years and years of experience, and it shows. The place had some trouble in its initial phases according to the staff, however things seem to be getting better and better. Highly recommended!
Hi James, that’a good to hear! Had heard some worrying reports, so glad things are looking up.
As locals to Bramley, we have heard the comments and indeed experienced the early days of Patrie but decided to give it another chance last Saturday and to see whether lessons had been learnt.. Ok , it was lunch time and not that busy but the whole experience was great. We had the opprtunity to talk to the owner and learn about some of the teething difficulties from her point of view and she listened to our views. We could not fault the service, food or prices . It was a great meal , competitively priced. We understand that a full chef brigade is now in place together with a new, Thai front of house team. We will certainly be back. We support local businesses when they deliver and Patria and her team certainly did last week. Well done!

We love thai food but have exhausted the two exquisite ones in Gford and since this restaurant had Gordon’s seal of approval we gave it a go. There was three of us dining including my 8 year old at 6.30pm on a Saturday evening and I can honestly say that the entire experience was appalling, and incredibly amateur (not in a quaint way)! the young inexperienced staff were awful, they didn’t even put the cutlery in the correct places when we had to ask for some more!!! since they were not replaced after our starter. The food tasted like they had emptied an entire bag of sugar into everything and my tofu had clearly been poached, which I felt lacked texture and taste and was just cooked, I defy anyone who would say any different!!! When ever the plates were put down on the table they were pushed across to make room and often into my glass of wine, it was always a tense moment as to whether my wine would be over the table at any moment and this was simply a matter of time, I suggest avoiding this person in a car if her ‘just plough into whatever gets in my way is anything to go by’ The restaurant was also barely heated and was FREEZING particularly in the toilet, there is no excuse for this. In summary terrible + expensive + cold = never ever again !!! frankly I don’t care whether they have teething problems, we are paying to be fed and edible is a pre requisite at the very least.
Terrible. Food inedible. Service worst ever experienced. If they are still open in 6 months unless they change everything from chef to front of house I will be amazed. Worst meal I’ve ever had
went on valentines night, service so slow we left before we got main course, waited nearly1 hour 45mins to receive only starters, unbelievably bad, will not hurry back
Went in a group for dinner last Friday. Thai girl serving was a delight. Very attentive, professional and friendly. Food was good but not as spicy as I would expect.
Just been to Patrie’s!! There are some negative comments here and I can only imagine that the people leaving these comments were not in the same restuarant. We know Patrie from Teddington (Simply Thai) and can say without doubt that the food served here is delicious and the service attentive but not overly so. As a new restuarant, there are bound to be teething problems, as with any new business setting up. But the reason we all go to restuarants is to experience outstanding food in a setting that is quaint and comfortable. Petrie’s is everything you would want if it is Thai food you enjoy. Well done Petrie and we look forward to enjoying your hospitality very soon.
The manager is definitely rude to some of the customers, the food there is just so so, but i think it might be better if they can change the manager
Just had the most amazing meal in Bramley, staff were very friendly and the extensive menu was undoubtably the best Thai we’d ever had. Reading the comments above all I would say is yes the building was a little cold and we were a bit miffed that the dishes didn’t arrive closer together, there were seven of us eating and there was quite a wait for some of the main courses but they were well worth being patient for.
Thanks Tim, good to have some positive feedback, glad you had a good meal.
I’d agree with all the other reviewers. Food is fairly good (not as good as Rumwong), but portions are too small, it is too expensive, the venue is cold, lacking in atmosphere and the chef/owner is possibly the rudest person I’ve ever met. She stood over us for most of the meal in a bid to hurry us up and kept saying the kitchen was closing so we needed to get a move on. It was only 10.30 when we left and we were virtually pushed out the door and it was locked before we’d even got our gloves on – just 2 weeks before Christmas. Some Christmas cheer. Unsurprisingly we were the only people in the restaurant. The old adage is about right, if you like a restaurant you tell 4 people, if you don’t you tell 10. Except this time I plan to tell far more than 10 people. This restaurant doesn’t deserve to be in business!
