Express Yourself | We Love Food Junior Reviews The New Menu At Pizza Express
One of my favourite style of food is pizza, so when Pizza Express contacted us about reviewing items from their new autumn menu I knew it was a match made in heaven. As my girlfriend and I had also recently had our one year anniversary, I thought we could review it together and treat it as a dinner date. She was very excited as Pizza Express is one of her favourite pizza chains. So, we set off together and were instantly greeted with lovely staff who were incredibly polite and helpful our entire time there.
For starters I had chosen the ‘Nduja Arancini, one of their brand new offerings. Baked risotto balls with ‘nduja sausage, served with rocket and pesto. As soon as I saw these on the menu I knew I had to try them. The creamy and spicy centre was really tasty and I wanted more than the three that were served up – I had to resist ordering another portion. We also shared the Bruschetta Originale ‘PizzaExpress’ which is how it should be: simple and tasty! Although the bread was a little too chewy for the both of us.
For mains we both got pizzas as, after all, we were at Pizza Express. I had ordered the Campana, on the romana base, the brand new autumn special which has pork and fennel sausage crumbled up on top with friarielli (a more leafy relative of broccoli, tomato, garlic oil and mozzarella. This pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had, and the romana base complimented it perfectly. My girlfriend had gone for the Pollo ad Astra also on the romana base, which at first seemed to be like a normal chicken pizza but the cajun spices on top of the pizza really add a tremendous kick, one that gave it the edge.
Both my girlfriend and I have a sweet tooth so when it came to dessert we were both extremely excited to see what we had in store for us. After what was a long debate between the two of us, we finally settled on the new Sticky Toffee Bundt Cake which was served with salted caramel gelato and their Fresh mint and honeycomb cream slice that was served with vanilla gelato. The bundt cake was really moist although the bottom of the cake was slightly burnt. The honeycomb on the other hand was almost perfect. My girlfriend wouldn’t stop raving about how amazing she thought the dessert was. It was safe to say that we didn’t leave disappointed, or hungry.
Overall our time at Pizza Express was extremely good. The staff were really helpful and lovely, always asking us if we needed anything. I would really recommend Pizza Express’ new menu whether for a date night or just a little get together with friends.
