Picture Restaurant, Marylebone, London | Bookatable Star Deals
Any restaurant-goer not aware of Bookatable’s Star Deals is seriously missing out. I mean, they’ve got deals at The Ritz, Hawksmoor and now even the renowned River Cafe has joined the list. The last time we booked one we went with Fera at Claridges where we had a fantastic time and didn’t feel like paupers eating off a budget menu, you can read more about it here.

This time we chose Babylon at The Roof Gardens, that was until we received a phone call on the day to let us know there was an event on, meaning that we wouldn’t be able to go to the gardens. That’s like going for a meal in The Shard and not looking out the window. Sadly, we cancelled and booked our second choice – Picture‘s new place in Marylebone. Their original site in Fitzrovia had been on our radar for years but like so many other restaurants, we just hadn’t found the time. It’s owned by trio Tom, Alan and Colin who have worked together for many years within Michelin-starred restaurants.
The deal at Picture is a 6-course tasting menu, including a cocktail, for just £35pp. Some people would spend that in Pizza Express, or god forbid, Jamie’s Italian. It doesn’t even bear thinking about, yet it’s a reality we have to face.

So we arrived, weary and stressed from busy days, to a relaxed and quiet restaurant with stark walls and refreshingly minimalist decor. With our brains full and shoulders tense, this meal was like the equivalent of a spa treatment. Delicious plates of food being delivered on gorgeous plates, no decisions to be made (apart from if we’d each like a Beef bite for £1 – er, yes!) No loud music, no loud people – just calm. Service was equally as lovely – really friendly staff who added to the relaxing effect of our meal, especially the fella pictured earlier who made us feel right at home.

To make things even easier for us, even the soup (curried celeriac velouté) arrived with no spoon, you just drink it out of the mug – amazing. Every plate at Picture was delicious, pretty, fresh and well thought out without being pretentious – exactly what we like. Sometimes tasting menus can be a tad serious and OTT, but Picture’s was absolutely spot on.

The second to last dish was the star of the show for us – 28-day aged beef bone marrow crumb in a red wine sauce, so robust and oh, that crumb. Dessert was a simple dark chocolate mousse, banana and peanut crumble – a safe bet that was demolished within seconds (despite being pretty full by now.)
So please take our advice people, book this deal (or one of the others) because you work hard for your money and with Bookatable’s Star Deals it can go a pretty long way.
