It Might Be Cheesemas But It’s All About The Bacon | Byron’s Christmas special
‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Cheesemas’ or so it says on my place mat at the launch of Byron Hamburger‘s new seasonal specials. And as I’m in the mood for borrowing quotes, here’s one of my favourites – ‘If you want to make a recipe taste better, add cheese. If you want to make it taste even better, also add bacon.’ It looks like Byron’s head chef, Fred Smith has followed this advice with the No1 Cheesemas burger.
This isn’t your usual Christmas burger – no turkey, no stuffing and thank God, no sprouts. So what’s so special about this burger? Well apart from the size (a bloody huge knife and fork job), it’s all about the bacon. Loved, loved, LOVED the smoked bacon and onion relish, I could have quite easily eaten it out of a jar with a spoon.
Here’s the full breakdown of the Cheesemas No.1 (£12.95): two 6oz hamburgers, mature cheddar, that delicious smoked bacon and onion relish, bacon island sauce and pickles and topped with an onion ring. ‘Mac it up’ with a dollop of smoked bacon macaroni cheese in said onion ring for an extra £1.
Wait a just minute. Did I just say smoked bacon macaroni cheese? Yes I sure did. If the Cheesemas No.1 provide enough bacon then there’s always the Return of the Mac (£4.75) – macaroni, Freddar cheese sauce mixed with a little more of that smoked bacon and onion relish.
After the success of the Oreo Freakshake, Byron have launched a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup version (£7.95) – extra thick milkshake, chocolate brownie, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate and caramel sauces and topped with crushed honeycomb and a whole Peanut Butter Cup. Don’t worry, the Oreo Freakshake is still on the menu.
STOP PRESS!… Cheesemas goes on tour.
As the Cheesemas special has returned for its fifth year, Byron are celebrating all things cheesy by taking Cheesemas on tour with six parties in six weeks – working their way from London to Edinburgh via Birmingham, Leeds and Newcastle.
At each party there will be 100 free Cheesemas No.1 burgers (for the first 100 guests). They’ll also have 1,000 free beers, plus free treats, goodies and tastings galore, keep an eye on their website for the final details, but here’s a list of the venues and dates.
So now all that’s left for us to do is to wish you all a very merry Cheesemas and happy cold beer…
Available nationwide from 8th November.
