Never say Never(land) | Shuttlecock Inc Presents NTV Spring Break
I absolutely adore Peter Pan, it was (and still is except for Pixar’s Toy Story trilogy) by far my favourite Disney film. So when I found out that Shuttlecock Inc, the independent creative party people behind Mile High, Rumble at the Deli and The Blue Lotus Opium Den) were staging NTV Spring Break in Neverland an immersive adult playground version of JM Barrie’s Neverland, I simply had to find our more.
This is what I learnt. Over the weekend of the 19th- 21st April, Shuttlecock Inc will be recreating everything we loved about the late 90s classic MTV Spring Break and sprinkling it with a little fairy dust. Time for a Peter Pan plus party people (try saying that after a few cocktails in their tattooed Tinkerbell’s bar).
Tinkerbell’s just one of the reasons to come. Taking place at Park Village Studios, (a former 10,000 square foot film and photographic studio and now event space), NTV Spring Break guests are invited to eat, drink and party in a reimagined Peter Pan’s home patch, complete with hipster Lost Boys, geezer Pirates, a trustafarian Tiger Lily, a tattooed Tinkerbell, a gangsta rapping Croc and the dance battle to end all dance battles.
- Drink…
- … eat …
- … and drink some more!
‘Woah, woah, woah, slow down’ I hear you shout, ‘you said what now? Geezer pirates? A gangsta rapping Croc?’ OK, let me break it down for you. NTV Spring Break begins when guests are welcomed into the Darling’s House and offered a drink (the Coconut Water, consisting of tequila, dehydrated lime, pink peppercorn, coconut bitters, pineapple syrup). All very civilised, that is until you run into the Lost Boys – a group of bearded hipsters in ironic t-shirts, who have come together to run a street food collective. Think fish tacos with smoked chilli and burnt habanero, hot’n’sour wings, brioche three-cheese toasties with pickles, dulce de leche churros and more chipotle mayo than you can shake a pirate at.

Get some tattooed fairy action!
Time to pay a visit to Tinkerbell’s Bar, run by a foul-mouthed, no-nonsense fairy covered in ink and as hard as Skull Rock. Serving up Dark ’n’ Stormies (Fukken intense ginger, all spice syrup, soda and lime juice) from the best watering hole in Neverland, this Austin-style dive bar filled with rockabilly memorabilia and neon signs – I’m hoping something along the lines of Fangtasia, the vampire bar in True Blood.

What time is it?
Next to Tinkerbell’s Bar you’ll find ‘The Croc’, a hip hop legend complete with a clock on a chain around his neck and an entourage. Apparently this badass is the unofficial king of Neverland and will be shooting his latest music video complete with backing dancers and b-boys.

… and relax!
If you’d rather chill head to the Neverland Camp, where they’ll find a group of new age rah-vers. Join Tiger Lily, Sebastian, Ziggy and friends sat among brightly coloured tepees, trippy Psy-trance flags and a campfire to chant around. Here you will be able to try your hand at arts and crafts, have a massage, join a guru session and sip on Jarr Kombucha cocktails (gin, apple skin bitters, apple syrup, tonic, lemon rind garnish).
Back to party central and to the notoriously difficult to infiltrate pirate ship come East London gangster den hidden from prying eyes and led by Jimmy ‘Ook. Negotiate a meeting with Jimmy for some special perks, but if you don’t have the gift of the gab, they can join the boys in a lethal game of red / black / high / low, and tuck into some barrel-aged Monkey Shoulder Boulevardiers (oak-infused whisky, campari and martini rosso).
A highlight for some is the almighty NTV Dance Off, but not for us, we both dance like we’re being attacked by a swarm of wasps. The professionals will congregate in the NTV dance studio and take turns to show off their routines in the NTV boxing ring. Once the winner has been crowned, the crowds are invited to stay to continue the party and dance to a DJ set. This will be when I sneak back to the Tinkerbell’s bar for another one of those Dark ’n’ Stormies, who’s with me?
