Get Into The Christmas Spirit | Festive Cocktails At Ask For Janice, 50-52 Long Lane Farringdon, London EC1A 9EJ

ASK FOR JANICE | CHRISTMAS COCKTAILS | WE LOVE FOOD, IT'S ALL WE EAT

You’re right, Ask For Janice, it doesn’t. Especially at Christmas.

I’m not actually a massive fan of Christmas food (unless it’s something dirty or Dishoom‘s turkey raan) but what I am keen on is Christmas booze – especially cocktails. So the other night we popped down to Ask For Janice in Farringdon to try out their seasonal selection. Now we don’t like to encourage irresponsible drinking so we made sure we lined our stomachs first.

Never drink on an empty stomach. That’s our reasoning for all this food anyway.

The food wasn’t the reason why we were there but I have to say, the menu is brilliant – we tucked into the BEST Pork scratchings (£3.50) – not rock hard and greasy, these still had tonnes of meat on them. Stout salt squid, parsley and orange (£5), Black badger bean hummus (£5.50), Chorizo, sherry and sourdough (£7) and Braised beef croquettes and mustards (£5.50).

ASK FOR JANICE | SNOWBALL | CHRISTMAS COCKTAILS | WE LOVE FOOD, IT'S ALL WE EAT

All sparkly and delicious!

There are four festive cocktails all at £9. We kicked off with the Berry Christmas – Janice’s own sloe gin, cranberry syrup and Prosecco, garnished with a rather large sprig of rosemary. A light and bubbly girly drink that’s impossible to drink without removing the herbs first.

Now I’m going to get into a lot of trouble here, but the Snowball was a lot more enjoyable that the one my dad made me two Christmases ago. I’d already had pretty much every kind of spirit that day and it tipped me over the edge. Although he’d probably say the one at Ask For Janice should have a slice of lime, not lemon.

ASK FOR JANICE | EGGNOG | CHRISTMAS COCKTAILS | WE LOVE FOOD, IT'S ALL WE EAT

Eggnog was so proud of his extraordinarily long straw

Next was the Janice Eggnog made with a whole egg and dried nutmeg. Who needs dessert when you’ve got this? If the music hadn’t been so loud [insert granny emoji here], the situation would have been near-perfect.
