The ShackMeister burger at Shake Shack | 24, Market Building, The Piazza, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8RD
We never need an excuse to visit Shake Shack in Covent Garden. But when we found out The ShackMeister was making its UK debut we were there in a flash. The ShackMeister is basically their classic cheeseburger topped with crispy ShackMeister ale marinated shallots and finished off with a dollop of their tangy secret recipe ShackSauce.
The shallots are chopped, soaked in Shake Shack’s very own ShackMeister ale for 24 hours and then deep-fried to crispy perfection. This pile of crunchy shallots adds texture to the cheese burger whilst the flavour of the ale creeps through, but be warned this burger is seriously filling!
This could have something to do with Shake Shack’s hot chocolate that we made the mistake of sipping on pre-burger. It’s just so thick and creamy, don’t expect a weak and watery beverage here. They use the same mix as their famed Concretes, but rather than cooling it, they heat it add caramel syrup and a ‘dash’ of milk. Hey presto you have an European-style hot chocolate.
One of our fellow diners asked for its nutritional details, to which the reply (with a wink and a smile) was ‘we are not obliged by law to publish the calorie content – yet’. Which in other words means either ‘oh my god how many!’ or they simply don’t know. Saff’s top tip – drink half when it’s hot, let it cool whilst eating your burger and drink the other half as a dessert.
The ShackMeister is a great addition to Shake Shack’s already excellent menu and available now at £6.25 for the single patty and £9.50 for the double.
