We road test (get it?) the Deliveroo premium restaurant delivery service
In case you don’t know, Deliveroo is a company that deliver freshly cooked restaurant meals to your door, within an average of 32 minutes with a delivery fee of £2.50. Of course anything that becomes a trend in London was first a trend in New York, where lunch deliveries are all the rage. At the risk of getting all heavy and serious, aside from lazy Londoners, this could be ideal for less able-bodied people or those too ill to leave the house.
OK, serious bit over.
As we live outside of London, my day job colleagues and I test drove Deliveroo for lunch at our desks in Southwark, you should have seen the excitement (and the jealousy). We could have gone for The Table just across the road which seemed a bit silly as it is so close, Bermondsey Street’s Antico and Pizarro were tempting too, as was El Vergel which I’ve been meaning to try.
In the end the guys were craving burgers so we went for food from nearby Porky‘s. The good thing about choosing a restaurant I have visited is I know how the food tastes and what they quality should be. The worry with a website such as this is that they tend to me a nightmare to use, I had no trouble whatsoever, it is very clear and simple, no gimmicks or annoying pop-ups. They delivered on time, so a tick for that. However, I did have to come outside and find the driver as he was lost outside Leon, obviously no one in the Blue Fin building have used Deliveroo before.
I legged it back to my desk where my eager colleagues were almost collapsing in hunger, I was pleased to find the food still hot. My Pulled pork in a toasted bun £9.50 was exactly how it was when I had it on site and there were no complaints about the Homeburgers £8.50 and Memphis bean burgers £8.50 with fries that had retained their crunch.
With new restaurants being added all the time and big expansion plans, Deliveroo is set to thrive. Until then, it’s absolutely brilliant for those fortunate people who live in London. As we live in the wrong side of Kent, this kind of service is just a fantasy, hopefully one day our prayers will be answered and we can get a restaurant meal delivered to our front room to be devoured on the sofa whilst watching Hollyoaks – heaven.
