There’s nothing like a new set of crockery to reignite your passion for cooking and trying new recipes. I’d been stuck in a bit of a cookery rut, making the same reliable recipes over and over, too busy (and lazy) to try anything different. New plates and bowls are like new clothes or accessories – you want to wear them well. We had been intrigued by Tesco’s home range since spotting the pretty pastel Sherbet tableware collection earlier in the year, so we were more than happy to get involved in trying out their new A/W range.

What we didn’t realise however, was that it would be really hard to choose what to get. There was a beautiful Copper pendant light (£31.20) which we really wanted but have no where for it to go, we’d only just bought a new dining room light. Talking of copper, the Professional Go Cook range was gorgeous too. Chunky knitted Autumnal throws were calling my name, but we already have blankets and throws a plenty. We were bored of our plain old white plates and bowls and fell in love with the rustic and autumnal Organic Autumn Glaze tableware range, available in red, black or grey. The Autumn Glaze plates (£5) are sold individually, as are the matching Autumn Glaze Cereal bowls (£4).

We find it almost impossible to find practical yet stylish placemats, with kids around we need tableware that is easy to clean. Tesco’s Woven Charcoal Placemats (£4 for 2) give the appearance of texture of fabric yet is made of wipeable PVC, perfect! Talking of easy-clean, I hate having to polish glasses rather than leaving them to dry on the draining board, these Tesco Vintage glasses (£3.50 each) do just that. We only bought two to see how they looked but like them so much that we’ll be buying more, along with some extra plates and bowls as it’s only a matter of time before I break one.

I’m a sucker for candles so I also grabbed this Textural Ball of Yarn Design Resin Tealight Holder (£7.99), not an official Tesco product but available on their site, along with loads of other brands which we didn’t realise until now. Supermarket homeware has come a long way, I might have to go back for these Vintage 16-piece cutlery set (£12) even though Ade wasn’t convinced. It never occurred to us that like fashion, you can have tableware that corresponds with the different seasons, now we’re well and truly hooked on the idea. Uh-oh.
