*THIS RESTAURANT HAS NOW CLOSED*
Remember Gordon Ramsay’s programme The F Word back in 2010 when the competition was on to find the best local Thai restaurant? Well the semi-finalist Patria Weerapan from Simply Thai in Teddington has gone and set up a posh brand new restaurant in Bramley. For the 99% of you that won’t have heard of Bramley, it’s a little village just outside of Guildford in Surrey.
A Thai Panang beef curry that Patria cooked on the F Word was described by Gordon as “Absolutely phenomenal – a proper authentic Thai curry. Patria is really incredible…a freak of nature..and an amazing talented chef.”
Now this is my old neck of the woods, I grew up a few miles away in a beautiful village called Albury. The name of the restaurant Patrie – meaning ‘homeland’ in French is a tad confusing, it obviously sounds like a French restaurant rather than Thai. Patria named it such as it felt like home the moment she saw it. Plus it’s her own name spelt incorrectly… It’s amazing what swapping an ‘a’ and an ‘e’ can do!
Seeing as this was the opening night, we didn’t get to sample much food. Just a few canapés and a wonderful green curry. This used to be my favourite dish in the whole entire world until I went to Thailand this year and basically OD’d on it. Patria’s version made me fall in love with it all over again.
It’s still getting on its feet so there’s no website to look at yet, you’ll just have to make do with our pictures for now. Patria said she’s aiming for not one, but two Michelin stars, high hopes, we’ll be hoping she gets them.
